General Information
Additive E451(iii) — sodium potassium triphosphate is a subtype of the food additive E451 from the polyphosphates group. Other common names include sodium potassium tripolyphosphate or triphosphate of sodium and potassium.
The additive is produced industrially by melting or heating mixtures of sodium dihydrogen phosphate and potassium dihydrogen phosphate at high temperatures, resulting in a mixture of triphosphates.
Additive E451(iii) is not included in the General Standard for Food Additives Codex STAN 192-1995, but it is included in the Codex Alimentarius International Numbering System for Food Additives CXG 36-1989.
Additionally, additive E451(iii) is not mentioned in the EFSA assessment of phosphate additives and is not used in the food industry of European Union countries.
