Anthocyanins Help in the Treatment of Chronic Diseases

Studies conducted by Norwegian scientists have proven the effectiveness of anthocyanins in combating chronic diseases.

In the food industry, anthocyanins are used as a natural additive-colorant E163.

Anthocyanins are natural antioxidants found in large amounts in vegetables and fruits with dark pigmentation (from reddish-brown to dark purple). Typical examples of foods rich in anthocyanins include blueberries, blackcurrants, black raspberries, and eggplant skin.

The study focused on examining the effect of anthocyanins on inflammatory processes in the human body. A total of 120 participants (59 men and 61 women) aged 47 to 74 took part. The duration of the study was 3 weeks and aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Medox supplement (Medpalett Pharmaceuticals). During the trial, participants were divided into two main groups. One group received Medox, supplying the body with 300 mg of anthocyanins per day, equivalent to consuming 100 g of fresh blueberries. The other group received placebo tablets.

Analysis of blood cells before and after the study showed that in the first group the presence of cells combating inflammatory processes significantly increased. In the second group, no changes in blood cells were observed.

These findings suggest that the intake of supplements or foods containing anthocyanins may play a role in preventing and treating chronic inflammatory diseases.
